Restate secures $20M to build durable infrastructure for AI agents

If you’ve ever lost a long email draft because your browser crashed, imagine that happening to an AI agent halfway through executing a complex financial transaction across multiple services. That’s the problem Restate is throwing $20 million at solving. The Berlin-based startup closed a Series A round led by European venture capital firm Singular, with participation from Redpoint Ventures and Capital One Ventures. The raise brings Restate’s total funding to $27M, building on a $7M seed round from June 2024. What Restate actually does Restate builds execution infrastructure that makes distributed backend services and AI agents inherently durable. Traditional approaches to keeping distributed systems reliable tend to involve layering complexity on top of existing processes. Restate’s pitch is fundamentally different: a single binary runtime that treats durability as a core infrastructure property, not an afterthought.
