Morpho introduces offer-based markets for onchain credit

Morpho just launched what might be the closest thing DeFi has to a proper credit market. The protocol’s new product, Morpho Midnight, went live on July 21 on Base, introducing offer-based lending where borrowers and lenders set their own rates, maturities, and collateral requirements. The move positions Morpho as a dual-architecture protocol: Morpho Blue handles variable-rate, open-term lending, while Midnight tackles fixed-rate, fixed-term credit. Together, they represent a bet that onchain lending needs to grow up before it can compete with the roughly $200 trillion global credit market, of which onchain credit currently represents an estimated $60 billion. How Midnight actually works Midnight flips the traditional pooled lending model. Lenders post offers specifying exactly what they want: which collateral they’ll accept, what interest rate they require, and how long the loan lasts. Borrowers browse those offers and take the ones that work for them. The protocol supports several features designed to reduce friction.
