The US labor market is cooling, but job openings fell to roughly 7.36 million in June, down from 7.59 million in May, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ latest Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey released on August 4. The hires rate held at 3.4%, suggesting employers are still bringing people on board at a reasonable clip. June’s nonfarm payrolls came in at just 57,000 jobs added, roughly half of the 110,000 that economists had expected. That miss was significant enough to briefly boost crypto prices when the data dropped, as traders recalibrated their expectations for monetary policy.
