Solana Foundation says the network is secure against quantum threats

The quantum panic has reached Solana, and the Solana Foundation’s answer is calm: nobody needs to head for the bunker. On October 8, 2026, Jacob Creech, Technical VP of the Solana Foundation, told users the network remains secure and can upgrade its cryptography to handle quantum computing and AI-accelerated attacks. His message: no “bunker mode” and no mass wallet migrations. What Creech actually said Creech’s argument rests on Ed25519, the signature scheme Solana uses to authorize transactions. On Solana, signing keys are derived from a secret seed, and that seed is never exposed on-chain. If the underlying elliptic curve were compromised, only the derived key would be at risk, not the seed sitting behind it. Whoever holds the seed can prove they are the legitimate owner, even if an attacker managed to forge the derived key. A proof-of-concept that lets users verify seed ownership and move to a quantum-resistant scheme has been developed and open-sourced. The Justin Drake warning that set this off Creech was responding directly to Ethereum researcher Justin Drake. Drake had warned that the crypto industry needs to prepare for a possible breach of ECDSA before “q-day.” Q-day is th...
