The Singapore Exchange just made its most aggressive move yet to dominate Asia’s derivatives market. SGX signed a new licensing agreement with MSCI Inc. that will bring up to 100 new futures and options contracts to the exchange, covering everything from global developed-market benchmarks to sector-specific indexes across Emerging Market Asia. The initial phase alone will roll out roughly 40 contracts. What the deal actually covers The new contracts will span three broad categories: global developed-market benchmarks, Asia-Pacific single-country indexes, and Emerging Market Asia sector indexes. That’s a meaningful expansion from SGX’s existing MSCI product suite, which has historically focused on core Asian exposures. SGX CEO Loh Boon Chye framed the expansion as building a comprehensive MSCI suite that empowers investors to navigate global equity risks from a single venue.
