Shelby, a decentralized storage platform built for AI and distributed compute, has moved out of testnet and into private beta. The team announced the shift on September 29, 2026. Its takeaway from months of testing was mostly good news: the core platform held up. The real gaps were in tooling, APIs and compatibility for developers. What the testnet taught Shelby Shelby calls itself a global object storage and data platform designed for the heavy data appetite of AI models and distributed computing jobs. The testnet opened in March 2026 on the Aptos testnet. Builders got early access to a set of SDKs, APIs and development tools. Shelby shipped kits for React, Ethereum and Solana, plus tools that are S3-compatible. S3 is the storage interface popularized by Amazon’s cloud, and plenty of existing software already knows how to talk to it. S3 compatibility means a team could, in theory, point its existing setup at Shelby without rewriting its storage code. The conclusion was split in two. The core platform proved reliable. But builders said they needed specific tooling, APIs and compatibility to actually build on it. From testnet shutdown to private beta Shelby shut down its testnet on ...
