Nubank accelerates US market entry with Lead Bank partnership

Nubank just walked into the most competitive banking market on the planet and skipped the line. The Brazilian fintech giant, which has amassed over 140 million clients across Latin America, launched US banking operations on September 10 through a partnership with FDIC-insured Lead Bank, sidestepping years of regulatory waiting by using an established bank’s infrastructure instead of waiting for its own charter. What Nubank is actually offering The centerpiece is a high-yield savings account paying 3.50% APY. Paired with that is a no-annual-fee Mastercard credit card offering 1.5% cashback, with the potential to hit 2% under certain conditions. But the product that could move the needle most is fee-free remittances. Nubank is launching free domestic and international money transfers initially covering corridors to Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia. Then there’s the Nu Global account, a multi-currency high-yield savings product supporting transfers across more than 35 countries. The account also lets users trade select cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin and Ethereum, folding digital assets into the same interface where customers manage their traditional banking.
