The 2026/27 Premier League season is about to kick off, and the most important question in English football has nothing to do with transfer windows or tactical formations. It’s whether Manchester City, one of the most decorated clubs of the modern era, will finally learn what punishment, if any, awaits it for 115 alleged breaches of financial rules. The Premier League first announced charges against City back in February 2023. The charges primarily cover the period from the 2009/10 season through 2017/18, a stretch during which City transformed from a mid-table curiosity into a genuine superpower under Abu Dhabi United Group ownership. Of the 115 total charges, 54 relate to the club’s alleged failure to provide accurate financial information, and 35 relate to failing to cooperate with the investigation.
