Kuwait border posts and drilling rig attacked as Gulf energy infrastructure faces escalating threats

1 hour ago 2

Three border posts and an offshore drilling rig in Kuwait came under attack, causing structural damage and injuring one worker.

Kuwait’s Defense Ministry confirmed attacks on border posts and a drilling rig, with damage reported across the targeted sites. One worker was injured in the strikes.

The broader context is the ongoing 2026 Iran conflict. On April 24, 2026, two northern land border posts were hit by explosive-laden drones launched from Iraqi territory. That strike caused material damage but no casualties.

The Mina Al-Ahmadi oil refinery, one of Kuwait’s largest with a processing capacity of roughly 730,000 barrels per day, sits in the same threat environment.

Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE, and Qatar all condemned the earlier April attacks as direct assaults on Kuwait’s sovereignty. Iraq’s prime minister ordered an investigation into the drone launches originating from Iraqi territory.

Between July 9 and July 12, 2026, Kuwait City itself was placed under siren alerts as air defenses worked to intercept additional drone and missile threats.

Kuwait banned crypto mining in 2022, citing strain on the national power grid.
