General Atlantic, one of the largest growth equity firms on the planet, has tapped JPMorgan Chase to spearhead its renewed push toward the public markets. The New York-based firm, which manages roughly $130 billion in assets, is assembling a heavyweight roster of Wall Street banks to shepherd what could become one of the most closely watched IPOs of the year. Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs will join JPMorgan on the deal. A long road back to the starting line This isn’t General Atlantic’s first run at going public. The firm filed confidentially for a US IPO back in December 2023, a period when the broader equity capital markets were still nursing wounds from a brutal stretch of volatility and dried-up deal flow. Those plans were shelved indefinitely. General Atlantic appears to have been quietly laying the groundwork for this moment, bringing on James Gorman as an adviser in March 2025 to help steer preparations. Gorman’s involvement is notable.
