Deadline for classified US government benchmark for frontier AI models passes with no public announcement

The US government just blew past a self-imposed deadline to establish a classified benchmarking process for the most powerful AI models in existence. August 1, 2026, was the date federal agencies were supposed to have a structured framework ready for evaluating the advanced cyber capabilities of frontier AI systems.
