The exploit came to light early Thursday after EyeOnChain, which monitors the activity of sophisticated investors on the blockchain, flagged unusual activity tied to the address.

The wallet received $1.7 million in USDC and quickly opened a high-leverage short position worth $31 million in ETH. As Ethereum’s price rose, the bet unraveled, triggering a series of liquidations that wiped out about $1.5 million.

The hunt for the wallet moved fast. A few hours after BC.GAME‘s announcement, well-known blockchain investigator ZachXBT reached out to submit a bounty claim, suggesting that he had collected key information.
