Anthropic strikes $10 billion compute deal with Nvidia backed Volta and Bitdeer

Anthropic has reportedly agreed to spend $10 billion on computing capacity supplied by AI infrastructure startup Volta Infra and Bitcoin mining company Bitdeer Technologies. The six year contract gives the Claude developer access to a data center in Norway operated by Bitdeer, according to Bloomberg, which cited people familiar with the matter. The facility will provide 133 megawatts of capacity and is expected to use Nvidia’s newest Vera Rubin chips. Volta announced the agreement Tuesday but did not identify the customer, describing it only as a leading AI developer. Reuters said it could not independently verify that Anthropic was the unnamed company. Anthropic declined to comment, while Volta and Bitdeer have not publicly confirmed the customer’s identity. Shares of Bitdeer rose nearly 10% in premarket trading following reports of the agreement.
