X to add crypto trade buttons, says product executive Nikita Bier

X is getting ready to let users trade crypto without ever leaving their feeds. Nikita Bier announced on August 25 that trade buttons for digital assets are “coming soon” as part of the platform’s expanding Smart Cashtags feature, which already supports live Solana and Ethereum price charts embedded directly in posts. From cashtags to a trading desk Smart Cashtags first surfaced in January 2026, when Bier teased the initiative as a way to bring real-time market data into the social feed. By February, the team had confirmed that actual trading features would follow. The feature allows users to paste contract addresses directly into posts, supporting even unlisted or freshly minted tokens. Users will be able to view live price data, read related discussions, and execute buy or sell orders, all within the same interface. The initial rollout is reportedly targeting iOS users first, with plans to expand across devices. On-chain support currently covers assets on Solana and Ethereum.
