US and UK conduct first joint military operation in space, sending a message to China

For the first time in history, the United States and United Kingdom have carried out a joint military operation in space. The mission, which ran from September 4 to 12, involved a carefully choreographed rendezvous between American and British satellites in geostationary orbit, roughly 35,786 km above Earth’s surface. The timing was not coincidental. China’s Shiyan 12-01 satellite passed approximately 83 km beneath the allied spacecraft during the operation. Both spacecraft were traveling at roughly 11,000 km/h through geostationary orbit. The operation was publicly announced on September 18, a week after it concluded.
