Ukrainian drone detonates near vital gas pipeline in Bulgaria, exposing NATO air defense gaps

A drone believed to be associated with Ukrainian forces crossed into Bulgarian airspace undetected on August 8 and detonated in a sunflower field approximately 100 meters inside the country’s border, landing uncomfortably close to one of southeastern Europe’s most important energy corridors. The explosion occurred near the Kardam border crossing, roughly 1 kilometer from a Bulgarian compressor station on the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline and just 200 meters from a Romanian compressor station. No casualties or infrastructure damage were reported.
