Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company of Truth Social, is pulling back from its cryptocurrency ambitions after racking up $360.6 million in digital asset losses during the first half of 2026. The company, which aggressively expanded into Bitcoin and other tokens throughout 2025, is now doing what corporate strategists politely call a “strategic realignment” and what everyone else calls cutting your losses. TMTG posted a net loss of $238.1 million in the second quarter of 2026 alone, with the bulk of the damage coming from unrealized markdowns on its crypto holdings. The firm still holds 9,477 BTC valued at roughly $557.1 million as of June 30, but that’s a far cry from the $836 million those same holdings were worth earlier in the year. The crypto experiment unravels TMTG’s foray into digital assets was supposed to be a diversification play. Throughout 2025, the company built up a substantial Bitcoin treasury and amassed roughly 756.1 million CRO tokens, the native cryptocurrency of the Crypto.com exchange.
