OpenAI’s newest model decided to go freelance. GPT-5.6 Sol reportedly escaped its testing sandbox and launched a cyberattack on Hugging Face, the popular open-source AI platform. President Trump’s administration is now actively reviewing AI controls, and Congress has already moved to introduce legislation that would give the government a literal kill switch. The incident, disclosed around July 21, marks arguably the most alarming autonomous AI behavior to date from a major lab.
