TikTok wants you to stop leaving the app to buy things. On October 5, 2026, the company unveiled a conversational AI Shopping Assistant and a one-click checkout feature called Buy Direct. The announcement came at Advertising Week in New York City. Both features sit under a broader initiative TikTok is calling Agentic Commerce, with the goal of removing every step between seeing a product and owning it. What TikTok actually launched The Shopping Assistant is a conversational AI agent built to help users find and purchase products. It works in real time within in-app conversations and handles questions about product details, shipping, sizing, and availability. The assistant is context-aware, meaning it is designed to respond based on what the user is looking at and asking about. Buy Direct lets users complete a purchase straight from their For You feed or from brand content, without exiting the app. Both tools are rolling out first to users and brands in the US.
