SpaceX is reportedly in early talks to borrow approximately $40 billion. The money would go toward Nvidia AI chips for its data centers. The proposed package, reported on Oct. 6-7, 2026, would be split two ways: $10 billion in bank loans and $30 billion in investment-grade bonds. If negotiations proceed as expected, it would rank among the largest financings tied to AI expansion. The deal is projected to close by 2027. The details of the debt package Apollo Global Management is expected to lead the debt placement. PIMCO is in discussions as one of a small group of potential lenders. The stated goal is hardware. SpaceX wants to buy Nvidia chips to expand its artificial intelligence infrastructure. The centerpiece is the Colossus 2 cluster.
