Runware launches Sonic Inference Pod to bring modular AI data centers anywhere in three weeks

Building a data center traditionally takes years. Runware thinks it can do the equivalent in three weeks. The AI infrastructure company on Tuesday unveiled its Sonic Inference Pod, a modular, containerized compute unit designed to deploy anywhere with power access and minimal lead time. Each pod ships in a 20-foot container, houses over 1,000 GPUs, runs proprietary liquid cooling, and delivers 1 megawatt of inference compute. Stack enough of them together, and you have a data center. One that didn’t require years of permitting, construction, or grid negotiations. That last part is the pitch. Traditional data centers can take several years from planning to operation. Runware is claiming a deployment window of three weeks, which it says makes the Sonic pod roughly 50 times faster than conventional buildouts. What the Sonic Inference Pod actually does Each pod is purpose-built for AI inference workloads, not training. The distinction matters. Training requires massive centralized clusters running for weeks. Inference is the part where the model actually responds to a user query, and it needs to happen fast, close to the user, and at scale. Runware is positioning the pods for edge depl...
