Recursive Superintelligence signs $400M compute deal with Amazon as AI infrastructure race heats up

Recursive Superintelligence, a startup barely six months old, just committed $400 million to an Amazon compute agreement. That’s not a typo, and yes, it represents the majority of the money the company has raised to date. The San Francisco and London-based firm emerged from stealth in mid-April 2026 after raising between $500 million and $650 million in a Series A round that valued the company between $4 billion and $4.65 billion. Its backers include GV (formerly Google Ventures), Greycroft, NVIDIA Ventures, and AMD Ventures. Now most of that capital is heading straight to Amazon’s cloud infrastructure. A startup that burns cash by design Recursive Superintelligence is building AI systems designed to autonomously modify their own architecture and training algorithms without human intervention. The founders call it “Level 1” autonomous training. In English: they want AI that can teach itself to become better AI, recursively, without a human engineer tweaking knobs.
