Rain acquires merchant wallet startup Ansa to enhance stablecoin payment offerings

Rain, the stablecoin-powered payments platform and card issuer, has acquired Ansa, a startup that lets merchants run their own branded prepaid wallets. The deal, announced on August 12, brings a decidedly old-school product, fiat-denominated stored-value balances, into a company built on crypto rails. Think of it like a Starbucks gift card, but one that works everywhere Visa or Mastercard is accepted. Ansa’s tech lets brands issue wallets where customers preload dollar balances and spend them primarily at the issuing merchant, thanks to deep point-of-sale integrations through Mastercard’s network. Now, with Rain’s principal membership in both Visa and Mastercard, those same prepaid balances can extend across a much wider merchant ecosystem. A fiat product on crypto infrastructure Ansa’s wallets hold dollar balances. No tokens, no seed phrases. Customers load money in advance and spend it at their favorite brand. The underlying settlement, though, can now run through Rain’s stablecoin pipes. Rain currently serves over 100 organizations with wallets, cards, and cross-border payment tools.
