Private investors drive record deal volumes in AI projects as crypto-AI convergence accelerates

The venture capital world has a new favorite child, and it’s not even close. Global venture investment hit a record $300 billion in the first quarter of 2026, with AI-related startups vacuuming up roughly $242 billion of that total. That’s approximately 80% of all venture dollars flowing into a single sector. Four of the five largest venture capital rounds ever recorded happened during Q1 2026 alone. OpenAI, Anthropic, and xAI secured $122 billion, $30 billion, and $20 billion respectively in Q1 2026. The $242 billion figure represents an increase of over 150% from the previous year. US-based frontier labs dominated the investment landscape, raising significant amounts through concentrated mega-rounds.
