The buyer has since offered to return it.

The shootout that shook the tournament
On June 30, 2026, Gil saved two penalties during a 4-3 shootout victory over Germany in the round of 32. The win pushed Paraguay into the round of 16, only the second time the South American nation has reached that stage in World Cup history. Gil earned FIFA Man of the Match honors for the performance.
Standing at 1.98 meters tall, roughly 6 feet 6 inches, Gil currently plays for San Lorenzo de Almagro in Argentina and carries an estimated market value of around 6 million euros. His senior international debut came on September 6, 2025. Paraguay named him to their World Cup squad on June 1, 2026.
