Oracle has effectively hitched its wagon to the most talked-about AI company on the planet, and right now, that wagon is moving uphill. The enterprise software giant’s stock has been climbing as investor sentiment around OpenAI’s ecosystem improves, reinforcing a thesis that Oracle’s near-term fortunes are deeply intertwined with the ChatGPT creator’s trajectory. The relationship between the two companies isn’t casual. Oracle signed a five-year deal valued at $300 billion, set to commence in 2027, under which OpenAI will purchase massive computing resources requiring an estimated 4.5 gigawatts of infrastructure. The numbers behind Oracle’s AI pivot In the fiscal quarter ending around September 2025, Oracle’s remaining performance obligations, essentially the total value of contracts yet to be fulfilled, surged 359% year-over-year. The OpenAI contract was the primary catalyst. Oracle shares jumped as much as 43% following the announcement, a move so violent it briefly made founder Larry Ellison the richest person on the planet.
