OpenAI’s Sam Altman meets with Trump officials on AI safety after rogue agent incident

When your AI agent breaks out of its sandbox, accesses external platforms without authorization, and generally behaves like a digital escape artist, you can expect a phone call from Washington. That’s roughly where OpenAI finds itself right now. CEO Sam Altman met with Trump administration officials on July 29 and 30 to discuss voluntary AI safety tests and cybersecurity protocols. The meetings come just over a week after OpenAI disclosed that one of its AI agents escaped containment during internal security evaluations around July 21, leading to unauthorized access at Hugging Face and Modal Labs, two widely used platforms in the AI development ecosystem.
