OpenAI’s GPT-Live, the new default voice model family for ChatGPT, launched on July 8, 2026, and brings file attachments, project integration, memory, and search into what used to be a fairly isolated corner of the product. The practical shift is meaningful: you can now hold a conversation with ChatGPT and hand it a document at the same time, without switching to text mode to do it. What GPT-Live actually is GPT-Live is a new family of full-duplex voice models, meaning the system can listen and speak simultaneously rather than taking turns. The flagship model is GPT-Live-1, with a lighter version called GPT-Live-1 mini available to free-tier users. GPT-Live can delegate heavier cognitive tasks to more powerful models, including GPT-5.5, while keeping the voice layer responsive. Paid subscribers get GPT-Live-1 with the full feature set.
