OpenAI ChatGPT Mil launches across US War Department AI platform

The US Department of War has launched OpenAI’s ChatGPT Mil on GenAI.mil, expanding the military’s use of generative AI across a platform designed to serve more than 3 million personnel. ChatGPT Mil has been accredited to handle Controlled Unclassified Information at Impact Level 5, allowing personnel to use the system for secure unclassified work across areas including planning, policy, logistics and administration. The deployment follows an enterprise partnership between the Department and OpenAI established in 2025 and marks the adoption phase of that agreement. ChatGPT Mil provides access to chat, files, projects and custom GPTs inside the Department’s secure environment, with additional capabilities expected to be introduced over time. The Department said the system is intended to accelerate routine work and allow personnel to dedicate more time to higher priority tasks across the Joint Force.
