Nvidia discloses large commitments to tech firms, raising investor concerns about capital allocation

Nvidia just wrote a $5 billion check to a company most people haven’t heard of. The recipient is Safe Superintelligence Inc., the AI startup co-founded by former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, and the investment represents one of the largest single funding moves Nvidia has ever made in the AI sector. The deal, disclosed on July 27, gives SSI access to Nvidia’s next-generation Vera Rubin AI computing platform and is expected to boost the startup’s computational resources by an order of magnitude within the next 12 months. The growing web of Nvidia commitments The SSI investment doesn’t exist in isolation. In June 2026, Nvidia entered a $2 billion partnership with Coherent. Before that, it announced a multi-hundred-billion-dollar initiative with SK Group focused on AI infrastructure. SSI, which has been operating largely in stealth mode, is reportedly valued at approximately $32 billion.
