Nvidia could boost Lancium stake to 30% with $1B investment

Nvidia is reportedly in advanced talks to pour roughly $1 billion into Lancium, a Texas-based energy infrastructure developer, in a move that would give the chipmaker approximately a 30% stake in the company. The deal would mark one of Nvidia’s most significant bets outside of its core semiconductor business, placing it squarely in the business of keeping the lights on for AI. From Bitcoin miner to AI power broker Lancium’s origin story reads like a corporate pivot case study. Founded in 2017, the company initially built its business around Bitcoin mining powered by renewable energy. But the explosion of AI workloads created an opportunity too large to pass up, and Lancium shifted its focus to developing grid-connected gigawatt-scale “Clean Campuses” purpose-built for AI infrastructure. The crown jewel of that strategy is the Stargate Abilene campus, a sprawling facility designed to house up to 400,000 Nvidia GPUs across eight buildings.
