Nvidia-backed Firmus IPO stumbles as demand fades, exposing cracks in AI funding

On paper, Firmus Grid Ltd. had everything an AI-era IPO is supposed to have. Nvidia and Blackstone were among its backers, and its facilities are being built to serve clients such as Meta and OpenAI. Then investors were asked to put in firm orders. Demand for the Australian data center operator’s listing has dropped sharply, and as of October 8, 2026, the deal sits in limbo. A strong start, then a fast fade Firmus set out to list at a $5.5 billion valuation, offering shares at A$11 each. Early signals looked encouraging. The concerns raised by investors fall into three buckets. The first is pricing, which many viewed as aggressive for a company at this stage. The second is track record. Firmus currently runs only two data centers, with more under development in Australia and Singapore, so buyers are being asked to pay for a lot of future that hasn’t been built yet. The third is supply. Approximately 58% of the company’s shares are expected to be tradable immediately after the listing, meaning existing shareholders could be free to sell from the first day of trading.
