Napoli hires Massimiliano Allegri through 2029 as European football’s coaching carousel keeps spinning

SSC Napoli has officially appointed Massimiliano Allegri as head coach on a deal running through June 30, 2029, with the veteran Italian manager earning a reported €4.5M per year. He replaces Antonio Conte, who departed shortly before the announcement.

From Milan’s bench to Naples’ dugout

Allegri’s path to Napoli was a swift one. AC Milan sacked him at the end of the 2025-26 season following a tenure that fell short of expectations. Rather than drag out a messy departure, Allegri agreed to terminate his Milan contract without seeking a payout. That cleared the runway for a move to Napoli.

Preliminary verbal agreements reportedly emerged in late May and early June, with the official confirmation landing around July 3, 2026. Allegri brings a resume that includes stints at both Juventus and AC Milan, where he previously won multiple Serie A titles.

Napoli itself has navigated a turbulent few years. The club won Serie A in 2023 for the first time in decades, then watched its squad get dismantled through player sales. Conte was brought in as the fixer but didn’t last. Allegri is now the next attempt at finding stability.
