Microsoft just turned Copilot from a chatbot with ambitions into something closer to a productivity operating system. The company’s September 25 update reshapes the AI assistant around three tabs, Home, Code, and Autopilot, effectively merging document creation, app building, and autonomous task management into one interface. What actually changed The redesigned Copilot desktop experience consolidates several features that previously lived in separate corners of the Microsoft ecosystem. The Home tab merges what the company had been calling Chat and Cowork into a single surface where users can create and edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents without ever leaving the Copilot window. The Code tab is powered by GitHub Copilot technology and lets users build apps, dashboards, and workflows using plain language prompts. The Autopilot tab introduces what Microsoft calls proactive agents, starting with one named Microsoft Scout.
