Metaplanet, the Tokyo-listed company that has become Japan’s answer to MicroStrategy, sent approximately 4,800 BTC to Coinbase Prime over the final days of August 2026. The transfers, worth roughly $377 million at current prices, triggered the kind of on-chain alarm bells that make crypto Twitter reach for the panic button. Turns out, the company was just rearranging its furniture. CEO Simon Gerovich confirmed the moves were custodial adjustments, not a prelude to selling. Breaking down the transfers The activity unfolded across three separate transactions over five days. On August 25, Metaplanet moved 1,000 BTC to Coinbase Prime, a transfer valued at approximately $80 million. Three days later, on August 28, a second batch of 1,350 BTC followed, worth around $108 million. Then came the big one. On August 29, a single transfer of 3,000 BTC hit Coinbase Prime, clocking in at roughly $237 million. On-chain analytics firms quickly identified the wallet addresses and linked them to Metaplanet’s known treasury infrastructure.
