Metaplanet boosts Bitcoin holdings to 44,000 BTC after third-quarter trades

Metaplanet added 1,000 Bitcoin during the third quarter of fiscal 2026, ending the period with 44,000 BTC, now valued at about $3.8 billion, the company disclosed Monday. The figure strengthens its place as the second-largest corporate holder of BTC, trailing only Strategy, which owns roughly $73 billion worth of Bitcoin. Metaplanet said the increase came after it sold 10,000 BTC and later purchased 11,000 BTC in separate transactions. The company said the transactions were intended to prove that its Bitcoin treasury can be converted into cash while allowing the company to finish the quarter with a larger Bitcoin position. The company said the 10,000 BTC sale exceeded the aggregate outstanding principal of its bonds, borrowings and other interest-bearing liabilities, after accounting for cash, cash equivalents and US dollar-denominated stablecoins. The sale proceeds were held in cash, demonstrating that Metaplanet could monetize its main balance-sheet asset without repaying or redeeming those liabilities.
