Manchester United targets Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin in €30M move after World Cup breakout

1 hour ago 2

Nicolas Raskin just played himself into a very different tax bracket. The Rangers midfielder turned the 2026 FIFA World Cup into a personal audition tape, and Manchester United appears to have liked what it saw.

Rangers are reportedly holding firm on a price tag of around €30 million, roughly £20 million-plus, for the Belgian. For a player who arrived at Ibrox from Standard Liege on deadline day in February 2023, that’s a tidy return on investment.

The World Cup effect

Raskin featured in six matches during Belgium’s 2026 World Cup campaign, registering two assists along the way. His standout moment came in Belgium’s 4-1 demolition of the USA in the last 16, where he provided an assist before the Red Devils were eventually knocked out by Spain.

A midfield domino chain

Manchester United is reportedly pursuing Ederson from Atalanta in a separate deal valued at £38 million. Atalanta, in turn, has identified Raskin as a potential replacement for the outgoing Brazilian. So the same player is effectively being courted by two clubs for two different reasons, with each deal potentially unlocking or blocking the other.

Raskin himself has reportedly expressed determination to leave Ibrox this summer. Rangers hold a meaningful card: his contract runs through 2028. Three years of remaining deal length gives the Glasgow club genuine leverage to hold out for their asking price rather than accepting a discount.

What this means for the transfer market

For Manchester United, the calculus comes down to squad construction priorities. Do they want the established, more expensive option in Ederson at £38 million, or the younger, slightly cheaper bet in Raskin at €30 million?

The competitive tension between United and Atalanta could also push Raskin’s price higher than Rangers’ initial ask. Rangers’ negotiating position only strengthens the longer the standoff continues, especially with that 2028 contract removing any urgency to sell.
