The final score read 5-0, and the loudest cheer of the night at the Etihad Stadium came in the 90th minute when 18-year-old Rayan McAidoo slotted home the fifth goal. City controlled roughly 66% of possession and created chances at a rate Norwich simply couldn’t match. McAidoo’s rise from academy prospect to first-team contributor McAidoo entered the match as a substitute for Rayan Cherki in the second half, scoring in the 90th minute. This wasn’t his first rodeo. McAidoo previously found the net during his senior debut in a 10-1 FA Cup demolition of Exeter City back on January 10. Scoring on your senior debut is a nice party trick. Doing it again in your next cup appearance suggests something more lasting. The young winger joined Manchester City’s academy from Chelsea in the summer of 2024. Since arriving, he’s compiled 16 goals and 7 assists across his time with City’s youth and Elite Development Squad sides. Squad rotation with a purpose Norwich arrived at the Etihad with ambitions that lasted roughly as long as it took City to settle into their rhythm.
