Jürgen Klopp confirms talks to become Germany’s coach, and crypto sports betting markets are already moving

Jürgen Klopp, the man who turned Liverpool into a European powerhouse, has confirmed he’s in discussions with the German Football Association (DFB) about becoming the men’s national team coach. The talks follow Julian Nagelsmann’s resignation after Germany’s embarrassing round-of-32 exit at the 2026 World Cup, where they lost to Paraguay in a penalty shootout.

Klopp described the discussions as “intensive” and made clear he wants to agree on a structural vision before committing. The timeline here is important. Nagelsmann resigned on or around July 3, 2026, but the DFB has signaled these talks aren’t about an immediate appointment. They’re looking for a long-term strategic solution, not a quick fix to stop the bleeding.

Klopp left Liverpool in 2024 after nearly a decade of dominance on Merseyside. He joined Red Bull in January 2025 as Head of Global Soccer, a role that kept him connected to the sport without the daily grind of club management. He also served as a World Cup analyst for Magenta TV.

Germany’s national team has been in a rough patch since winning the World Cup in 2014. Losing to Paraguay in a penalty shootout at the 2026 World Cup is about as rock-bottom as it gets for a football nation of Germany’s stature.
