Emerald AI raised $150 million in an oversubscribed Series A on August 25, valuing the company at approximately $1.05 billion. JERA Ventures, the investment arm of Japanese energy giant JERA, participated alongside NVIDIA and Siemens. Total funding for Emerald AI now exceeds $220 million. What Emerald AI actually does The company builds software that lets AI data centers dynamically adjust their power consumption in response to real-time signals from electricity grids. When the grid is under stress, Emerald’s system can cut a data center’s power demand by up to 40% in under a minute. The company demonstrated this capability in a trial conducted in December 2025 using 96 NVIDIA GPUs. It has since completed five commercial demonstrations and is pushing toward broader deployments. Emerald AI estimates its technology could unlock over 100 gigawatts of existing US grid capacity for AI data centers. To put that in perspective, 100 GW is roughly equivalent to the total electricity generation capacity of the United Kingdom. Why JERA cares about AI power management Morgan Stanley forecasts that data centers will account for nearly 20% of global electricity demand growth through 2030. The Vi...
