Iran lawmaker calls for response to US strikes, says ceasefire violated

2 hours ago 2

Iranian hardline lawmaker Mahmoud Nabavian is calling for a firm response after US military strikes hit targets in southern Iran, which he says violated an existing agreement between the two countries.

What happened in southern Iran

The US military struck Iranian targets in the southern part of the country on June 26, 2026. The Pentagon framed the action as a direct response to Iranian drone attacks on a cargo ship transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

US officials characterized the Iranian drone strikes on commercial shipping as a “foolish violation” of a ceasefire agreement. Iranian officials fired back by asserting that the US strikes themselves were ceasefire violations, demanding accountability. Nabavian, a vocal critic of ongoing US-Iran negotiations, used the moment to amplify calls for retaliation among hardline factions in Iran’s parliament.

The Strait of Hormuz handles roughly a fifth of global oil transit.

Nabavian’s broader critique

Earlier in June, around June 12-13, Nabavian publicly criticized a potential US-Iran agreement, calling the latest draft “more damaging” than prior versions. He labeled the draft a “pure loss” for Iran, arguing it offered excessive concessions compared to previous negotiating positions. His framing was deliberate: he compared it to the controversial JCPOA nuclear deal from 2015.

Tensions between Washington and Tehran have included broader exchanges throughout 2025 and 2026, with accusations of mutual ceasefire violations piling up through May and June of this year.

What this means for crypto investors

No crypto tokens or market-specific impacts have been mentioned in connection with these events. Iran itself has been a significant Bitcoin mining jurisdiction precisely because of sanctions-related economic pressures.
