India prepares $25B investment push for deep tech startups

India is putting serious money where its ambitions are. The country is marshaling roughly $25 billion in combined public and private investment to supercharge its deep tech startup ecosystem, a bid to close the gap with the US and China in sectors like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, robotics, and semiconductors. The centerpiece of this push is a ₹1 lakh crore (approximately $11 to $12 billion) Research, Development, and Innovation scheme designed to inject patient capital into long-gestation technologies. Where the money is flowing The India Deep Tech Alliance, a public-private coalition established in September 2025, has committed over $2.5 billion to deep tech investments. That figure has grown significantly beyond its initial $1 billion pledge. Within that $2.5 billion commitment, $1 billion has been earmarked specifically for artificial intelligence development. As of mid-2026, IDTA members have deployed roughly ₹2,170 crore (about $260 million) across 56 companies in prioritized sectors.
