Harry Kane just did something no outfield player in England’s 150-plus-year footballing history has ever done. The Bayern Munich striker earned his 121st cap for the Three Lions, surpassing Wayne Rooney’s previous record of 120 appearances to become the most-capped outfield player in England’s history.

Kane matched Rooney’s mark of 120 caps during England’s World Cup quarter-final victory over Norway on July 11, 2026. He then added another appearance to push the tally to 121, giving him sole ownership of the record.

The only Englishman with more international appearances is goalkeeper Peter Shilton, who accumulated 125 caps across his career. Kane now sits just four appearances away from claiming that all-time record too.

Kane first pulled on an England shirt back in 2015. For context, Rooney’s 120 caps came over a span from 2003 to 2018.

Beyond the caps record, Kane also holds the title of England’s all-time leading goalscorer with over 70 goals.
