Fulham Football Club has confirmed Álvaro Arbeloa as their new head coach on a three-year contract, marking the end of a managerial search that began when Marco Silva departed for Benfica in June 2026. The former Real Madrid defender steps into the Premier League spotlight.
The coaching appointment itself
Arbeloa arrives after spending time in Real Madrid’s youth coaching setup. Initial discussions between Fulham and Arbeloa reportedly began around June 10, 2026, with negotiations advancing significantly by June 23.
A work permit for Arbeloa to coach in the UK created a delay that pushed the timeline into early July. During that waiting period, Khan indicated publicly that two candidates remained under consideration, even as Arbeloa was widely regarded as the frontrunner.
Silva’s departure ended a five-year tenure at Craven Cottage. The three-year contract length suggests Fulham is giving Arbeloa a genuine runway to implement his vision rather than treating this as a short-term experiment.
