Filipe Luís calls Jorginho as Monaco pursuit begins in earnest

55 minutes ago 2

When AS Monaco hired Filipe Luís as head coach in early July 2026, the question was never whether he would try to bring familiar faces to the principality. The question was who would pick up the phone first.

Jorginho did, apparently.

Reports confirm that Luís personally contacted the veteran midfielder to discuss a potential move to Monaco, adding another name to what is shaping up to be an aggressive summer recruitment push by the Ligue 1 side.

Luís signed a contract with Monaco that runs through June 2028. His tenure at Flamengo, running from 2024 through early 2026, produced five titles.

Jorginho is not the only player Luís has approached. Reports also indicate that Carrascal, a player from Flamengo’s squad, received similar contact from the new Monaco boss.

Securing players from Flamengo is proving complicated, largely because the Rio club faces its own difficulty finding suitable replacements. Monaco’s chances of landing Flamengo players are considered low by people tracking the negotiations, which means Luís may need to pivot toward his European network more than originally planned.

That dynamic makes Jorginho, currently playing in Europe, a cleaner target. There are no replacement logistics to solve on Monaco’s end, no Brazilian league calendar conflicts to navigate.

Monaco’s sporting director, Thiago Scuro, also of Brazilian origin, played a significant role in bringing Luís to the club, suggesting a strategic intent to blend Brazilian talent and management expertise in their operational approach.
