FIFA’s crypto push meets USMNT’s World Cup breakout as prediction markets surge past $5B

1 hour ago 2

The US Men’s National Team just dismantled Paraguay 4-1 in their World Cup opener at SoFi Stadium. And while the goals were flying on the pitch, crypto money was flowing just as fast off it.

Prediction markets tied to the 2026 FIFA World Cup have accumulated $5.4 billion in trading volume. The USMNT’s dominant performance on June 13 only added fuel to an already overheating market.

Kraken breaks new ground as FIFA’s first crypto sponsor

Four days before the US kicked off against Paraguay, FIFA announced Kraken as its Official Crypto Exchange Supporter. It’s the first time a cryptocurrency exchange has held an official sponsorship role at a World Cup.

On the pitch, a different kind of transformation

Folarin Balogun scored twice, with Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie adding a goal each. The US created 12 chances across 90 minutes and held 65% possession throughout.

Blockchain ticketing and the fan token gap

Avalanche’s blockchain-powered ticketing platform processed approximately 60,000 transactions during the early matches of the World Cup.

There is no official fan token available for the USMNT on platforms like Socios, where clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona have tokenized fan engagement. Unofficial community-driven tokens built on Solana have already started to emerge, riding the wave of enthusiasm around the team’s performance. These unofficial tokens carry none of the protections or utility that a sanctioned partnership would provide.

What this means for investors

The $5.4 billion in prediction market volume signals that crypto-native betting and forecasting platforms have found genuine product-market fit.

The Avalanche ticketing deployment processed 60,000 transactions in the tournament’s early days. That’s a market that extends well beyond soccer, into concerts, conferences, and any venue dealing with ticket fraud.

The unofficial Solana-based USMNT tokens present significant risk. Without official backing, these tokens are essentially leveraged bets on American soccer enthusiasm with zero fundamental value.
