The United States men’s national team now knows its first knockout opponent. FIFA has confirmed the USMNT will face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on July 1 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. local time, meaning the host nation plays on home soil for its first elimination match in what is already a historic tournament.
How both teams got here
The US finished atop Group D, which earned it the right to host this round of 32 fixture in front of what will almost certainly be a sold-out crowd in the Bay Area.
Bosnia and Herzegovina took a different path. They advanced as one of the best third-place finishers from Group B, with a victory over Qatar doing the heavy lifting to secure their spot in the knockout stage.
The 48-team format, introduced for this tournament, means third-place finishers can still advance. This is the first World Cup ever played with 48 teams. Prior editions ran with 32. The expansion is co-hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Tickets, crypto, and the business of this World Cup
If you are hoping to attend, plan to spend accordingly. Secondary-market tickets for the USA vs. Bosnia match have been listed starting at around $3,000.
Kraken, the crypto exchange, serves as the Official Crypto Exchange Supporter of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which includes ticket giveaway promotions tied to the platform.
FIFA Collect, the organization’s digital collectibles platform, also migrated in 2025 to operate on a dedicated FIFA Blockchain.
What this matchup means for the USMNT
From a pure football standpoint, the US is in a favorable position. Playing at home, having topped their group, and facing a side that came through as a third-place qualifier, the USMNT enters July 1 as the expected winner on paper.
Bosnia and Herzegovina are not a pushover. Their advancement out of Group B required results, and the quality in their squad is genuine.
