Ethena’s flagship products make this argument personal. The protocol issues USDe, a synthetic dollar, and sUSDe, a version of it that earns yield. The mechanics run on what’s called a delta-neutral strategy. Ethena holds staked crypto assets and simultaneously opens short positions in perpetual futures, a type of derivative contract with no expiry date. Stripped down: if the underlying asset’s price rises, the staked holdings gain and the short loses, and vice versa.
