DogeOS launches public testnet for zero-knowledge rollup on Dogecoin

Dogecoin has spent its life as the internet’s favorite way to send money. Now someone wants it to run apps too. DogeOS, the application layer built by the team behind the MyDoge wallet, opened a public testnet on September 30, 2026. It is a zero-knowledge rollup that supports Ethereum-style smart contracts, and it uses DOGE to pay for transaction fees. What DogeOS actually launched DogeOS is an EVM-compatible ZK-rollup, sometimes called a ZK-EVM. EVM stands for Ethereum Virtual Machine, the software environment that runs smart contracts on Ethereum. Compatibility means developers who already write Ethereum code can bring those skills, and often that code, over to DogeOS. The detail most Dogecoin holders will notice is the gas token. Gas is the fee users pay to run a transaction or interact with a smart contract. On DogeOS, that fee is paid in DOGE rather than some new token invented for the occasion.
