Crystal Palace signs Pierre Sage as head coach on 3-year deal

Crystal Palace has confirmed Pierre Sage as its new head coach, handing the 47-year-old Frenchman a three-year contract with an option for a fourth season. He officially takes the reins on July 6 as the club gears up for the 2026-27 Premier League campaign.

The deal comes with a compensation fee of approximately €5 million, or roughly $5.8 million, paid to RC Lens. That figure could climb with performance-based add-ons.

From Lens to London

Sage arrives in south London off the back of a remarkable season at RC Lens. He guided the French club to a second-place finish in Ligue 1 and won the Coupe de France.

Crystal Palace and Sage reached an agreement in principle around June 9-10, giving both parties nearly a month to sort the paperwork before his official start date.

Why Glasner left and what Sage inherits

Sage replaces Oliver Glasner, who departed Crystal Palace after guiding the club to Conference League glory.

What this means for Palace’s trajectory

The length of the contract matters. Three years plus an option for a fourth is a commitment that allows a coach to implement a genuine philosophy. It takes roughly two transfer windows for a new manager to reshape a squad in his image. Palace is giving Sage at least six.
